05/10/2010:  Congratulations to Matt McKenzie for winning third place in the 2010 Altrusa Spelling Bee.  Matt is a  third grade student in Mrs. Thorson's classroom.

3/16/10: Davis Elementary would like to thank the Patrick Carman family and Walla Walla Kids Read for inviting our Kindergarten through third grade students to see children's author, Judy Schachner speak at Cordiner Hall on the Whitman College Campus. Mrs. Schachner is most notable for authoring the popular Skippy Jon Jones book series. Her presentation was humorous and enjoyable for all.

2/24/10: Thank you to all of the families and community members who attended and supported Davis McTeacher's Night last night at the 9th Street McDonald's. Over $830.00 were raised to support Davis Elementary School . It's a great day to be a Davis Dragon!

02/18/10: Join the Davis staff for McTeacher's Night on Tuesday, February 23rd from 4:45 to 7:00 PM at the 9th Street McDonald's in Walla Walla. See you there!

2/17/10: Congratulations to Mrs. Kissinger for earning a $5,000 National Board Certified Teacher Leadership grant from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession. This grant will offer support for Mrs. Kissinger to participate in and lead a lesson study cycle with a number of teachers at Davis Elementary.

Congratulations also go to Ms. Houchin, Miss Hansen, and Mrs. Beecroft for being selected as 2009/2010 mini-grant recipients from the Walla Walla Valley Retired School Employee Association. These $100 grants offer support for these educators in the instructional setting.

02/08/2010: Davis School is featured in the Whitman Science Outreach Newsletter (Fall & Winter). Mrs. Jackley and Mrs. Thorson's classes are in articles titled Spooky Science and A Close-Up View at Davis Elementary. http://www.whitman.edu/content/bbmb/hhmi-grant/outreach

01/29/10: Well the month of January at Davis School ended with a BANG on Friday, January 29th. Thanks as always to Pam's delicious cinnamon rolls, the Davis Parent/Community Communication & Events Team served over 270 goodies to our students and their grandparents (or special friend). Mrs. Kissinger's Book Swap was swamped with exchanges of excitement over lightly used books. Mrs. Davis continued to work her Dragon Drill magic and had grandparents dancing in the isles. Whew, what a positive activity for all!

Friday evening the Davis PTA drew over 200 participants to the Davis gym for family movie night! Our families arrived enforce with blankets and camping chairs to fill the gym for the Pixar Shorts movie. It was fun to see so many diverse families enjoying an evening back at school on a cold winter night. Special thanks goes out to Kerrin Griggs, Shana McKenzie, Stephanie Kinnaman, Rachel Gallaway, Brook Sloan, Marne Thorson, Alvaro Campos, and others for their assistance and support in pulling off this event. Way to go!
