Hawks XC 6th @ STATE

From Coach Durand:

What a historic day for the CPXC program! We qualified our first ever boys team to the state meet, after only ever qualifying individuals the previous 5 years.  The boys handled the pressure of the State Meet well, and gave their full effort. All week we talked about only being able to control their mindset and effort, rather than time & place; and these boys did just that. I'm so proud of all them. Sixth place at the state meet is remarkable, and this is a team that future Hawks runners will look up to as they've set the bar for our program. Joshua Courtney made the podium (11th place) by running a smart race. Jio Herrera just missed the podium in 18th place, but Max Wilwand had an MVP race as he finished 3rd for the Hawks. Jake Courtney & Azaiah Garcia finished in a big pack of runners to finish our scoring, and Conner Hawkins & Eli Durand rounded out our state boys racers.  Azaiah & Eli really had some adversity to deal with in the race and both recovered well. My heart is full of gratitude to see these young men race at State, and I count myself lucky to be able to coach them. We're really going to miss these seniors next year.

Lauren Green was our only female state qualifier this year, but she certainly represented the Hawks well!  She ran a really smart race with a well paced first mile, and then Lauren gained ground in the 2nd and 3rd miles. It's not easy to toe the line by yourself, but Lauren handled the situation wonderfully. I'm so happy that she was able to finish up her XC racing with a great race and in front of family and friends. FULL RESULTS AT ATHLETIC.NET
