College Place Public Schools proudly announces that Cassandra Berube, an exceptional educator from John Sager Middle School, has been named Educator of the Year at the Community Excellence Awards. Mrs. Berube’s dedication, innovative teaching, and profound impact on students were celebrated at this prestigious event.
Mrs. Berube’s journey to teaching is both inspiring and unique. Before earning her teaching degree, she spent years as a horse trainer, farm manager, and youth leader, fostering meaningful relationships with students while teaching equine skills. Later, she worked as a paraeducator at Davis Elementary School for seven years, balancing work and family life while earning dual degrees in General and Special Education. Graduating during the pandemic, she overcame challenges to enter the classroom fully prepared to support her students with creativity and care. Since 2021, she has served as an ELA Resource teacher at Sager Middle School, where she continues to innovate and inspire.
“Mrs. Berube is an exceptional teacher who is all-in for her students,” said Chris Plucker, Principal of John Sager Middle School. “She pushes them to achieve their best, helps them face challenges head-on, and builds strong relationships to uncover their unique strengths. Our community is incredibly lucky to have her on our team!”
Board President Mandy Thompson remarked, “Cassandra embodies the spirit of College Place Public Schools. Her ability to connect with and inspire students is truly remarkable, and we are thrilled to see her honored as Educator of the Year.”
The Community Excellence Awards, held on December 11th, celebrated leaders who make the Walla Walla Valley a remarkable place to live and learn. Mrs. Berube’s recognition as Educator of the Year reflects her dedication to her students and her profession.
