In a Special Work Session held Wednesday, October 27, 2021, the College Place Public Schools Board of Directors discussed the renewal of its expiring four-year Educational Programs & Operation Levy (E P & O) (2018-2022), four-year Technology & Safety Capital Levy (2018-2022) and two-year Transportation Capital Levy (2020-2022). The board must approve a resolution for the levy and submit it to the Walla Walla County Elections Office by December 10, 2021.
Current District Levy Rates:
E P& O $2.10/$1,000 of assessed value
Technology and Safety Capital Levy $.40/$1,000 of assessed value
Transportation Capital Levy $.10/$1,000 of assessed value
Total collection of $2.60/$1,000 of assessed value.
The work session, which was open to the public, centered on effectively planning to handle the growth in College Place that is expected to continue at a steady rate (College Place has averaged over $25 Million in new construction alone each of the past five years) and growing and improving the excellent programs and services the district offers students and the community. The five member team made up of Chair Mandy Thompson, Vice-Chair Troy Fitzgerald, and members Anne-Marie Bauman, Eva Brown, and Todd Stubblefield evaluated ensuring short and long stability in the district and levying an amount considerate of their fellow local taxpayers.
After a thoughtful discussion on the next steps for the February election, the board requested Superintendent Jim Fry put together a resolution for the November 23, 2021 regular board meeting. Superintendent Fry was asked to develop a resolution that would eliminate both the Technology & Safety and Transportation levies and set a single four-year Educational Programs & Operations Levy at $2.50/$1,000; $.10 lower than the current overall levied rate of $2.60/$1,000.
Further details will be made available after the formal resolution is approved at the November 23, 2021 regular board meeting.
